An essential service to help detect and manage health conditions in aging pets.
Together we can help in disease prevention and to minimize suffering as your dog grows older. Our goal for our patients is always to maintain a good quality of life, regardless of age.
It varies slightly with breed and body size, but in general, a dog enters his senior years around seven.
Their health issues are much like our own as we age. Arthritis, dental disease, heart disease, kidney failure, hormone imbalances, vision and hearing loss, senility and cancer are all common in older dogs.
We recommend at least an annual physical exam with blood testing and/or x-ray to screen for internal disorders that we cannot detect with an exam alone. Some pets may require more frequent monitoring if they have a health problem or require long-term medication. Regular exercise is important for all life stages, for both physical and mental health. Older pets often require regular dental treatments or removal of lumps and bumps.
