The Veterinary Oral Health Council

In the mid 1990’s the Veterinary Oral Health Council was developed in the US by a group of veterinary dental specialists to evaluate dental health products for effectiveness in retarding plaque and tartar when used as directed in dogs and cats. Participation is voluntary, and if a product demonstrates that it is effective, it is awarded the VOHC seal of approval. This system of evaluation is now recognized world-wide and is endorsed by international veterinary dental associations in Britain, Australia, Europe, USA and Canada.

The key to management of gum disease (for humans or pets!) is prevention. As long as the surfaces of the teeth are cleaned frequently, the gums will stay healthy.

Excellent oral health is maintained by daily oral hygiene. The gold standard is brushing.

Daily chewing activities can also be effective in maintaining oral health. Daily use of products that have been awarded the VOHC Seal will help to keep your pet’s teeth clean and the gum tissues and bone around the roots healthy.
